Blast wave speed
WebWhen the blast wave arrives, the pressure rises to the peak pressure and after some time t d, it decays to atmospheric pressure. This t d is the decay time. From my readings so far, I don't seem to have an intuitive grasp of the decay time. The books I read suggest that the decay time increases as one moves away from the source. WebThis blast wave increases the temperature and pressure of the driven gas and induces a flow in the direction of the shock wave but at lower velocity than the lead wave. The bursting diaphragm produces a series of pressure waves, each increasing the speed of sound behind them, so that they compress into a shock propagating through the driven gas.

WebMay 8, 2024 · The underlying reason why the usual sound wave and the blast wave travel at different speeds is that the air (or any real-life acoustic media for that matter) is non-linear. The acoustic waves travel by … WebThis distance should correspond to the distance that the blast wave travels during its time of application, which can be checked by a simple calculation. If the length of the wave front is 0.2 m and the wave speed is 5.15 в 10 3 m/s, the time it takes for the wave to travel 0.2 m is 3.88 в 10 –5 s. As expected, this is the duration of the ...

This is a compilation of published … Blast waves cause damage by a combination of the significant compression of the air in front of the wave (forming a shock front) and the subsequent wind that follows. A blast wave travels faster than the speed of sound and the passage of the shock wave usually lasts only a few milliseconds.
